Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi reacts after giving up a two-run home run to New York Yankees’ Starlin Castro during the seventh inning of a baseball game Sunday, May 29, 2016, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

It was the first time since at least 1913 that the Yankees won a game of nine or more innings while recording just one hit or fewer.

Hiro went 7 innings, and allowed just 4 baserunners: A single by Steve Pearce in the 5th (meaning he had a ideal game through 4), a reach on a fielder’s choice (a busted-up double play) by Logan Morrison right after that, another reach on a fielder’s choice by Desmond Jennings right after that, and a double by Brandon Guyer in the 6th.

After fielding a groundball a step to his right, Miller double-clutched the ball in his glove and his throw to first base narrowly missed Ackley, who hustled out of the box.

Eovaldi pitched six strong innings, allowing six hits and two walks, resulting in one run, to go with seven strikeouts. “I’m going to come in (Sunday), and if it feels sore, I’ll continue to get treatment and then I’ll be ready go”. The Yankees’ bullpen took over from there with three ideal innings of relief: Dellin Betances struck out two in a flawless seventh, and Andrew Miller struck out the side in the eighth. One swing changes the whole outcome.

Two pitches later, Castro drilled a 1-0 offering over the center-field fence that halted Odorizzi’s no-hit bid and vaulted the Yankees ahead of the Rays. It gave the third baseman 90 RBIs vs. the Yankees since his rookie year in 2008, the most in the majors against the Yankees in that time.

Pineda had a 2.70 ERA in his first seven starts against the Rays, who have scored five runs during a three-game skid.

DODGERS 4, METS 2: Adrian Gonzalez snapped a ninth-inning tie with a two-run single off suddenly struggling closer Jeurys Familia as Los Angeles won at NY.

Beltran’s milestone hit was a solo home run to left field off of Rays pitcher Matt Moore, cutting Tampa Bay’s early lead from 5-0 to 5-1.

They cut that lead to four with two more runs in the eighth as the Rays’ leaky bullpen continued to let the Yankees creep back into the game before Alex Colome finally shut the door in the ninth.

Longoria almost made it 4-0 in the fifth, but his two-out, opposite-field drive with two on was caught at the right-field wall by Aaron Hicks. “It was as good an outing as we’ve had all year”. The Yankees allow 0.0 runs per game, but have improved upon those numbers in the past 10 games, allowing 0.0 runs per game during that span.

A’s starter Rich Hill (8-3), who left the game with an apparent left shoulder injury, went 61/3 innings to win his fifth straight start. Even with two bad knees, for Beltran, the home run ball that leads to runs makes the decision easier for Girardi.

Manager Joe Girardi put Rodriguez back in the DH spot despite Carlos Beltran hitting well in his place. And while A-Rod sat on the disable list, the world learned something very important: Carlos Beltran is a very good Designated Hitter.

The Rays now travel to Kansas City to play the Royals.
