A robbery suspect who allegedly pulled a box cutter from his pocket when officers told him to show his hands, was shot by a Fort Worth Police officer late Wednesday night.

An officer and a Tarrant County sheriff’s deputy, both of them off duty, were working security nearby.
The victim says one of the men pulled out what appeared to be a silver handgun and robbed the victim of the items and the suspects ran off. Officer Jimmy Pollozani says instead of telling someone about the gun, they took it home.
Within minutes, in the 8700 block of Normandale Street, the off-duty officers spotted a man matching the description of the robbery suspects look in their direction and then duck down behind bushes near the apartment complex’s entrance.
Police said the officers got out of their auto and confronted the man who was on foot. That’s when the police officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect in the lower back. The object he pointed at the deputy and officer was a box cutter. Povero says the man was treated and is healthy.
Fort Worth police say the suspect was hospitalized in critical condition following the shooting early Thursday.

The Fort Worth officer’s body camera recorded video of the dramatic rescue, and the department has now shared the video with the public.
