Off-duty NYPD cop shoots man during attempted robbery, police say

The NYPD is looking into an early morning shooting involving an off-duty officer in the Bronx.

The attempted robbery happened just before 3:55 a.m.as the off-duty officer was walking through the Mount Hope neighborhood near Creston Avenue and E. 179th Street.

The officer, who was not identified, shot and wounded one of the men, who police said had a gun.

“The cops came immediately”.

The other two suspects fled on foot to parts unknown, police said.

“He was screaming, ‘I need assistance, I’m a police officer. Call the police!” said Ritchie Forti, 24.

Two knives, including a steak knife, were found on the injured suspect, who was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital in stable condition, Schuck reported.
