In a world of cookie-cutter, cliché-spouting peers and colleagues, Spurrier – who will retire from coaching – always had time for a jab. “He’s got a good deal”.
But to hear a couple of his Gamecock players say it, the special stuff starts Thursday in Raymond James Stadium at the expense of the Hawkeyes. Great coach & great entertainer. I have a tremendous amount of respect for what he’s accomplished and what he’s done. As a coach you teach your kids to play for sixty minutes. He won at Duke, a feat that remains noteworthy – Duke, italicized – even as David Cutcliffe nears Spurrier’s success decades later.

Spurrier left UF for the Redskins, but lasted only two seasons in the NFL. Then, the team goes to Texas A&M and Tennessee before a three-game homestand against Florida, The Citadel (the only game S.C. might be favored in) and Clemson. I don’t believe it right now.
