Officer critical after shooting near casino garage

According to Atlantic City police chief Henry White, three men opened fire on two police officers during a routine stop near the parking garage to Caesars Casino.

Police released CCTV footage of showing two groups of three men that they were looking to trace, and offered a $20,000 reward.

Atlantic City Police Chief Henry White told reporters at an early-morning news conference: “At this point, I don’t know what the reason for the initial stop was, but as the officers were getting out of the vehicle, the males opened fire on our officers, striking one”.

Police have arrested 19-year-old Martell Chisholm of Millville and 28-year-old Demetrius Cross of Bridgeton in connection with the shooting.

The Atlantic City Police Department confirmed that it’s investigating a shooting. A representative of the NJ Cop Shot program told the outlet that the officers came under “immediate” gunfire. A police officer is in critical condition, and one suspect is dead.

The dead suspect was identified as identified as Jerome Damon, 25, of Camden.

The struck officer, whose name was not released, was taken to nearby AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and assisting agencies revealed that at 2:34 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, two uniformed Atlantic City police officers on patrol observed a robbery in progress being committed near the Caesars Atlantic City parking garage on Arkansas Avenue.

One suspect was shot and killed. The officer, who has not been named, as well as his partner, reportedly approached three suspicious men while in uniform in a marked auto.
