About six people were arrested in the early evening on Monday, city officials said, but the atmosphere appeared to have changed following two days of standoffs between unruly and sometimes violent demonstrators and police.

Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn has accused members of a Chicago chapter of the Revolutionary Communist Party for coming to town and inciting Sunday’s violence.

A auto burns as a crowd of more than 100 people gathers following the fatal shooting of a man in Milwaukee, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016.

A few hours after the shooting, violence erupted on the city’s largely black north side, with protesters hurling rocks at police and burning six businesses.

Barrett has repeatedly asked parents and guardians to keep their children away from the Sherman Park neighborhood.

The agency’s Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent review of the shooting, which is required under state law whenever someone is killed by police or dies in official custody.

Smith’s death was just the latest in a string of shootings involving police and black men to spark demonstrations and protests.

“We see them more willing to show body camera video when it’s pleasing to something they’ve done”, Hamilton continued. Rioters took to nearby businesses and set fire to a gas station, a supermarket and a liquor store. An 18-year-old man was shot and wounded Sunday night.

The trouble began on Saturday, when an African American police officer shot and killed a 23-year-old African American man who attempted to flee during a traffic stop.

The department, headed by Attorney General Brad Schimel, doesn’t release the videos of a shooting or death until the investigation is complete and the district attorney decides whether to issue charges in a death. Police said one person was shot at a Milwaukee protest on Sunday evening and officers used an armored vehicle to retrieve.

“That officer had to make a split-second decision when the person confronted him with a handgun”, said Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Bill Jessup according to the Post. “When there is something that weighs on the community’s trust, they say let’s wait”.

“We think we are in, comparatively speaking, a positive place”, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn told reporters as it became apparent the curfew was being respected.

He also said the city may have hesitated to give the officer’s race sooner for fear it would identify him.

Even Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is calling for the full video to be released, declaring at a press conference: “I want the video released”. He did not say what would happen to teens who are found outside in Milwaukee past the curfew deadline.

Relative peace returned to Milwaukee as a 10 p.m. curfew for minors went into effect and community leaders called for calm after two nights of unrest following a police shooting on Saturday.

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Residents in a Milwaukee neighborhood marred by violence and destruction in the wake of a police shooting are waking up after a much calmer night. He was taken to a hospital, but Flynn said his life was not in danger. They threw bottles, chunks of concrete and rocks at officers.

The department said it is aware of some local threats against its officers and is investigating.

“The difference in how white people in this country are treated when they interact with police and how black people are treated is astounding”, Sickmund said.

“There were groups of young people in particular, who were traveling in the streets”, Barrett told a news conference Monday.
