Officer involved shooting in Fountain

Investigators say a police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old boy during a family disturbance at a Fountain home.

The Fountain Police Department says a person who died after being shot by one of its officers Thursday afternoon was armed with a handgun.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is taking over the investigation, per officer-involved shooting protocol.

The teen was pronounced dead about 5:15 p.m., the county sheriff’s office said. Police say they went inside a home and found a man with a gun. The last officer-involved shooting in Fountain was in 2012, according to The Gazette.

An officer then fired one shot, hitting the man.

The shooting happened inside the residence.
