Officer-involved shooting outside baggage claim at Love Field

USA police have shot a man who charged an officer after attacking a woman’s auto with a rock outside of the Love Field airport in Dallas, prompting a temporary shutdown of the facility.

Blankenbaker confirmed witness reports that a man went after officers with the rock after being asked to stop.

Diamond was transported to a local healthcare facility where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Media reports said vehicle traffic had been halted to the airport, which is a major center for Southwest Airlines, a few miles from central Dallas. She had driven Diamond to the airport so he could fly home to the East Coast, police said.

The video of the witness shows a chaotic scene as people scream and scramble for cover near the baggage claim areas. “So the airport has had to pull everybody back out of the secure area and recheck them for security purposes”, Blankenship said.

This created enormous lines and the occurrence resulted in issues with air travel schedules at the airport where spending plan carrier Southwest Airlines Co manages 18 of Love Field’s 20 airport gates.

As of Friday afternoon, Love Field had the second-largest number of flights delayed of any US airport after Los Angeles International, at 50 or 14 percent of its departures, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.com.

Within an hour, the airport tweeted that lines through security were “moving fast”, but there remained many departure delays. After being shot initially, the man got up again and “in response, the officer discharged his handgun several times”, Brown said. Police shot the man when he did not comply, Armstrong said.

Surveillance video shows an officer intervening and aiming his gun at Diamond as he starts to advance with the rocks.

Airport spokesman Jose Torres says some people who heard gunfire ran through security, which required everyone to be rescreened.

Beattie said airport police receive specific training to be attentive to suspicious-looking travelers and that the Dallas Police Department provides “crowded-environment training” to all its officers every two years.

Authorities have not confirmed if anyone was shot, however, WFAA-TV are reporting that one person has been wounded and taken to hospital. Police said the woman was not hurt, and the children were not present at the airport.

According to tracking service flightaware.com, at least eight flights operated by Southwest and one by Virgin America were diverted to other airports. “I didn’t know where the bullets were going”.
