NY won’t be the only place with extra cops and anti-terrorism agents keeping crowds safe: In Pasadena, California, police and feds will keep watch over a popular New Years parade route and the Rose Bowl, which drew 700,000 people last year, the Daily Mail reported.
Amber Sheppard and Joey Calvert from SC plan to take it all in during their first trip to NY.
They say they’re not anxious about security, and the NYPD says they shouldn’t be. There will be 14 entry points for revelers who must go through a preliminary security check and not carry and backpacks, bags or alcohol.
About 6,000 uniformed police officers, 500 more than a year ago, and undercover officers are expected to patrol the area with bomb-sniffing dogs and radiation detectors.
“On New Year’s Eve, the department will be out in force”, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday. “You’re going to have one of the most policed, best protected events at one of the safest venues in the entire world, given all of the assists we deploy there”. New York’s 2016 celebration is set to include performances from rapper Wiz Khalifa and country singers Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood, with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper among the hosts helping the crowd usher in the New Year.
“The best advice we can give is to get there as early as possible”, the Times Square Alliance noted on its website. “Stuff’s going to happen, so it’s like I mean, I’m pretty sure everybody feel’s safe, can’t live your life in fear”, said Brandon Whitley, who is visiting from New Jersey.
The iconic 60-second countdown to midnight will be enhanced by audio and pyrotechnic effects on the TOSHIBA VISION screen, located directly below the world-famous Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball.
