The nation’s top government officials were in attendance to honor Baton Rouge police officers Matthew Gerald, Montrell Jackson, and East Baton Rouge Parish deputy Brad Garafola.
This memorial is open to the public, but guests should be prepared for tight security and should plan accordingly. The time stamp on that receipt was 8:43 a.m., just moments after the shooting Baton Rouge began. She’s set to participate in a community roundtable and meeting with local first responders on Friday.
Rosie Hernandez, whose nephew who is a Baton Rouge police officer, attended the service with her husband. Louisiana State Police say a Baton Rouge man was jailed for posting online videos threatening violence against Baton Rouge police.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch delivers remarks during a memorial service for three law enforcement officers at Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge, La., Thursday, July 28, 2016.
About 30 minutes after the investigating officer left the scene, the victims called police again, saying they had left the house, all in one vehicle, and Williams had found them and followed them, sometimes driving alongside them, taunting them, the affidavit says.
“The community, when they saw that police officer parked in a vehicle near the corner, they knew she was the mother of two kids, coached the basketball team and looked forward to what everybody else looks forward to: going home and tucking her kid in bed at night”, he said. We worked together at the University of Alabama Police Department for several years. Long killed the officers less than two weeks after protests erupted in Baton Rouge over the death of Alton Sterling, a 29-year-old black man who was shot and killed during a scuffle with two white police officers.
Ronal Serpas, who previously served as police chief in New Orleans and Nashville, said in an interview that a short-term decline in proactive policing may be natural when a department responds to lengthy protests.
“This is not about black and white, this is about a city”, the vice president said. Police stopped them in Addis, several miles away, even though their vehicle did not fit the suspect car’s description.
Ms Lynch called Officer Jackson “a portrait of selflessness and devotion”.
Cpl. Jackson’s sentiments took Mr. Cooke back to the early 1970s, when black cops “faced a lot of discrimination inside their departments”.
“My husband was a rare diamond, even billionaires couldn’t afford him”, she said to applause.
The Vice President said he heard that Mr Sterling’s aunt, who raised him, had prayed with a slain officer’s father.
One of the three officers injured in the attack, Deputy Nicholas Tullier, remained in critical condition Thursday, WAFB-TV reported, while officers Bruce Simmons and Chad Montgomery were released from the hospital July 21.

Soon after they were pulled over, more than a dozen vehicles with officers from every nearby police department had pulled up. Here in Baton Rouge it was fitting that he continued that role, as a guardian of his community and our freedoms here at home.
