The fatal shooting occurred Thursday as the officers were helping U.S. marshals to arrest the unidentified man accused of attempted murder.

“The suspect did not listen, quickly began to advance on the officers, concealing his right hand, which the officers believed was holding a firearm”, McCarthy said in a video message that accompanied the police statement.
The man they killed, Keith Childress, 23, was a fugitive out of Arizona, wanted for skipping out on his sentencing for convictions of burglary, armed robbery, kidnapping, theft and aggravated assault.
The situation turned deadly when police say they ordered Childress to put down what they thought was a weapon.
They were also under the impression that he was wanted for attempted murder, but that also was not the case.
Authorities have identified an attempted murder suspect who was fatally shot by Las Vegas police after they mistook his cellphone for a gun. He was tracked to a home west of downtown Las Vegas.
Steagall said that her son was in Vegas to visit his uncle and that police overreacted. He did not follow multiple orders to stop, show his hand and drop what he was holding, Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy said.
They, however, opened fire when he did not obey their commands. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident happened around 2pm, police shoot 1 suspect, no officers hurt.
