Official IDs UCLA shooting victim as professor
Along with the LAPD and UCLA campus police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and ATF both dispatched agents to the campus. According to Klug’s biographical page on UCLA’s Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, Klug was a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. A UCLA spokeswoman said the alert should have reached all students, but could not comment further Wednesday.

The public university has 43,000 students on its Los Angeles campus.
UCLA said classes were canceled for the rest of Wednesday, but are expected to resume Thursday, except for the engineering school, where the death occurred. He said he was “troubled” by reports of doors that would not lock but pleased about how the school’s notification system worked.
“Immediately we barricaded the doors, blocked openings with trash cans, turned off the lights, and pulled down the blinds”, she said.
Beck confirmed that the shooter was one of the dead.
In El Segundo as teams gathered to play Wednesday evening, they mourned the loss of a man described as kind and gentle, and very proud of his affiliation with UCLA.
“There is evidence that there could be a suicide note, but we do not know that at this point”, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said at an afternoon press conference.
The Los Angeles Daily News later reported that the gunman may have been a disgruntled graduate student, while KNX radio said the shooter was “despondent” about his grades, according to their law enforcement source.
Scott Waugh, an executive vice chancellor and provost, said the university would investigate concerns about doors that would not lock, but overall, the response was smooth.
They told NBC Montana on Wednesday that, though they didn’t take any extra precautions in reaction to the shooting, they would analyze the incident and learn from it. “We believe there are no suspects outstanding and no continuing threat to the UCLA campus”.
Students told 23ABC they were scared, and locked themselves in classrooms, libraries and bathrooms to stay safe. Los Angeles Police called a tactical alert, which puts all officers on alert citywide.
“We still have dozens of people in the building who have sheltered in place”, Herren said.
Jen Pierre, graduate student, was among those walking on campus after the conclusion of the lockdown.
The shooting happened one week before UCLA’s final exams. “Of course it’s tragic that the shooter killed someone and himself, but the fact that it wasn’t a mass shooting makes us feel safer”.
