“I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that NY is up and running and we’re doing everything that we need to do”, he said.

Cuomo said earlier on Sunday that there was “no reason to believe at this time that there is any further, immediate threat” after the events on Saturday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says initial investigations suggest the explosion, on West 23rd Street in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, was an “intentional act”, but that there is “no evidence at this point” of a connection to terrorism. The official says in the NY incident, the device that exploded had residue from an explosive called Tannerite.

A second device was found four blocks from the blast site.

Speaking at the scene, New York City governor Andrew Cuomo said: “We really were very lucky that there were no fatalities at the time”, adding that all 29 people who were injured have been released from the hospital. That allowed investigators to examine the cellphone attached to the bomb intact and discover that it was connected to the family of Rahami. Only one exploded, and no one was injured. As the robot was doing so, one of the devices detonated.

“I think it’s also wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions, because we are just in the beginning stages of trying to determine what happened”, she said.

But on Monday morning, police continued searching Linden and Elmora streets, close to where the backpack was found.

Also on Saturday, a man who authorities say referred to Allah wounded nine people in a stabbing rampage at a Minnesota mall before being shot to death by an off-duty police officer.

New Jersey Transit trains resumed service along the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line, but there are delays.

New York City was on high alert yesterday after a powerful explosion rocked Manhattan hours before President Barack Obama and other world leaders were due to arrive in the city for annual meetings at the UN.

Update, September 19, 1:42 p.m.: During a news conference with New York City and federal officials, William Sweeney, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York division, said there was “no indication that there’s a [terrorist] cell operating” in the New York area and had no information about Ahmad Khan Rahami’s “path to radicalization”.

Officials in NY are trying to determine who was responsible for an explosion that injured 29 in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, the FBI and NY police stopped a vehicle of interest in the investigation, according to a statement from FBI. She said no one has been charged.

The man suspected in this weekend’s Chelsea explosion is now in custody. Authorities are investigating all three incidents as possible terror acts.

The incidents raise concerns of terrorism less than two months before the United States presidential election and as world leaders gather in New York City for the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

In addition to the blast in Chelsea on Saturday, a pipe bomb exploded in a New Jersey shore town before a charity 5K race and an unexploded pressure cooker device was found blocks away from the explosion site in Chelsea.

New York’s mayor called the bombing that injured 29 people in the bustling Chelsea district “an act of terror”. “[We] are not taking any options off the table”.

The explosion was in the busy Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan, on West 23rd street, at around 8.30pm.

Investigators didn’t immediately comment on whether they thought the Elizabeth incident was connected to either of the two blasts. Authorities said the blast does not appear to have links to a global terrorism network. After he leaves, the video shows two men removing a white garbage bag believed to contain the pressure cooker from the duffel bag and leaving it on the sidewalk, according to a senior law enforcement official and another source familiar with the video. Investigators looked into it and didn’t consider it relevant to the case, said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

The device was transported to the NYPD Bomb Squad facility at Rodman’s Neck Range in the Bronx.

“I would like to express my warmest regards, best wishes and condolences to all of the families and victims of the frightful bombing in NYC”, the GOP nominee tweeted Sunday morning about the explosion that rocked a Chelsea street Saturday night.

Police have not said what, if any, forensic evidence they’ve collected from that device.

Police in Linden, New Jersey, which neighbors Elizabeth about 20 miles (32 km) west of NY, captured Rahami after responding to a complaint by a bar owner of a man sleeping in the closed establishment’s hallway.

“You should know you will see a very substantial NYPD presence this week – bigger than ever”, de Blasio said.
