The San Diego Padres pulled off another deal before Monday’s deadline.

The move will save the Braves money while unloading Olivera, who was arrested in April on misdemeanor assault and battery charges.

The Major League Baseball trading deadline usually sucks for whatever players are being traded, but not Matt Kemp.

A major-league source with knowledge of the negotiations indicated earlier this afternoon that a deal sending Kemp to the Braves was not close, meaning that the deal came together quickly over the last couple of hours. Hector Olivera is owed $28.5 million from 2017 to 2020.

Now regarded as a below-average defensive right fielder, Kemp has has no stolen bases this season after totaling 38 over the previous four seasons.

Kemp previously signed an eight-hour deal worth $160 million with the Dodgers before the 2012 season kicked off.

Meanwhile San Diego is getting a 31 year outfielder in Olivera who is now on the suspended list, following a domestic violence arrest outside Washington, D.C.in April.

He is hitting.211 with no homers and 2 RBIs in six games this season. The Padres immediately designated Olivera for assignment.

Atlanta acquired Olivera from the Dodgers last July 30 in a three-team, 13-player swap that sent Alex Wood and Jose Peraza to Los Angeles. (Blue Jays) as players the Padres have traded during this season.

He was in the Gwinnett lineup Saturday before being scratched about 30 minutes before the first pitch as trade talks continued.
