“From Santa Clarita they went up to the Monterey where they’re at right now”.
The GoFundMe account set up has already raised $22,500 as of 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The goal was $16,000.
The Community Foundation for Monterey County is continuing to accept donations to assist those impacted by the fire.
UPDATED 8:15 a.m.
Most of the people ordered out of their homes have been allowed to return, although some roads remain closed, authorities said.
The blaze burned through drought-stricken chaparral, tall grass and timber in its march through over 23,500 acres (9,510 hectares) at the edge of the Los Padres National Forest, where 350 residents have been evacuated, according to fire officials.
-Smoke is filling the skies of Atascadero and North County due to the Soberanes Fire burning near Big Sur.
The person, whose name hasn’t been released, was operating the large tractor when it overturned sometime during the night.
The operator of a bulldozer was killed when it rolled over during the firefight.
Several state parks near Big Sur were shut down as the Soberanes fire grew closer.
The blaze has destroyed 34 homes and 10 outbuildings, Cal Fire officials said. One structure was damaged and two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the flames.
Authorities say that a group of people rescued by Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday during a wildfire near California’s Big Sur denied being marijuana growers, but the deputy did not believe them.
There were concerns that Wednesday’s lower humidity, build-up in high pressure and low marine layer would impact fire activity and firefighters, Garver said.
There are 4,245 firefighters on the ground working to extinguish the fire, but authorities don’t expect to reach full containment until August 31, according to Cal Fire.
Acting California Governor Tom Torlakson, filling in for Jerry Brown, who is at the Democratic National Convention, declared a state of emergency on Tuesday for the counties where the fires are located.
Officials say the huge blaze in northern Los Angeles County is now 65 percent surrounded.
An inspection team has been sent to determine how much damage has been caused by the fire, but the work has been restricted because of downed power lines, falling trees and flames, Cal Fire officials said.
“This will provide the reimbursements for firefighting personnel because we have personnel from all over California in the Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valley fighting this fire”, County Supervisor Mike Antonovich said in a statement obtained by KPCC. At some point, he suffered fatal injuries in a remote area on the southeast end of the fire in Garrapata State Park in Carmel.

An evacuation warning has been sent to people in southern areas of Carmel Highlands, White Rock and Old Coast Road from Bixby Creek to Little Sur River, according to Cal Fire.
