Officials name man they want to question in NYC blast
Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said the devices were found in a bag in a trash can by two men who reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of the package.

5 His last known address was in Elizabeth, New Jersey. “I’m not sure if the morning commute will be easy”.
Authorities said the Manhattan bombing and the blast 11 hours earlier at the site of a 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors in Seaside Park, New Jersey, didn’t appear to be connected, though they weren’t ruling anything out.
The bombing in New York City, near 23rd St.in Manhattan, injured 29 people Saturday evening.
Nine people were stabbed in a Minnesota mall Saturday night before the suspect was killed by an off-duty police officer.
A claim of responsibility is no guarantee that the terrorist group directed or even inspired the attack, and authorities said they were still exploring a precise motive.
“If you look at a number of these incidents, you can call them whatever you want: they are terrorism, though”, said Chris Christie, the Governor of New Jersey.
New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo originally said the bomb in the city was “obviously an act of terrorism, but it’s not linked to global terrorism”, and clarified that no link to the so-called Islamic State (IS) group “et cetera” had been found.
Republican candidate Donald Trump was one of the first to say Chelsea was a bomb attack.
At the same time, five people who were pulled over in a vehicle Sunday night were being questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, officials said.
“The investigation is now focusing on one individual”, Cuomo said.
The investigation has not uncovered any links so far, even though the three bomb attacks were within the neighbouring states of New Jersey and NY.
Jack Mazza, co-manager of nearby V.C.M.R. Truck Services, said the bar owner came over exclaiming about the sleeping man, and Mazza walked over to see a man curled up with a sweatshirt hood pulled over his head in the rain.
NY was on high alert since a pressure cooker device explosion on Saturday rocked the Chelsea district of Manhattan and another similar device was found just four blocks away.
“Right now, we’re not actively seeking anyone”, he said. Both said Monday that appeared to be changing.
The explosion in Chelsea rocked the neighborhood and blew windows out of buildings.
United States authorities said the motive of all three attacks was unclear, but elected officials quickly identified them as terror-related. The same kind of bomb had been used in the Boston marathon attack in 2013. “Folks around here, they don’t get scared”. “It is a scary time because you never know when it will happen again”.
These statements differ significantly from what officials had said previously. Cuomo said: “It depends on your definition of terrorism”.
“What we didn’t know yesterday, and we don’t know yet, is: Is anyone taking credit for it and is it linked to global terrorism?”
Before Rahami’s capture, Cuomo said investigators have no reason to believe there are further threats, but the public should “be on constant guard”. “As we take more of their territory it exposes ISIL for the failed cause that it is”. We do not know the nature of it.
“It is certainly leaning more in the direction that this was a specific act of terror”.
“Security has been stepped up as members of the United Nations General Assembly gather in NY for a summit Monday”. Secretary of State John F. Kerry arrived Saturday, while Obama is scheduled to head to the city on Monday.
“Due to the explosion, Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea is closed and will re-open as soon as possible”. Officials said they had already prepared to beef up security, and now they would intensify those efforts. His motive remains unclear, New York Police Commissioner James O’Neill said. “So we’ll find out, we’ll put their images out”.
Earlier, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, speaking in White Plains, New York, also urged Americans to “be vigilant but not afraid”. He says was one was struck in a protective vest and the other in the hand. She added, “I have laid out a comprehensive plan to do that”. At the time, he was employed by Summit Security, a private contractor. “In this situation, it’s better to just leave!”
The official says a pipe bomb that exploded in Seaside Park, New Jersey, was constructed with a threaded pipe and black powder. No one was hurt. He warned that Rahami may be armed and unsafe, but offered reassurance.
Rahami wasn’t on any terror or no-fly watch lists, though he had been interviewed for immigration purposes while traveling between the USA and Afghanistan, one of the law enforcement officials said.
A federal law enforcement official says three bombs found in NY and New Jersey over the weekend had one component in common: a flip-style cellphone.
After zeroing in on Rahami and learning of the auto that had traveled between New Jersey and NY, authorities pulled it over Sunday night after it headed in the direction of Kennedy airport.
The official says two officers were shot in the encounter in Linden, New Jersey.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a national Muslim advocacy group, welcomed Rahami’s arrest.
AP spokesman Paul Colford said the AP told law enforcement officials about Rahami’s work at the Cranbury facility.
A pair of scavengers unknowingly handled a pressure cooker bomb when they removed the device from a suitcase in Chelsea before leaving it exposed on the sidewalk while walking off with the rolling luggage, sources and police officials said.

Some New Yorkers, though, said they felt uneasy waiting.
