Officials seeking missing Bradenton girl

A body was found inside a freezer in the garage of a grandmother of the missing girl, Janiya Thomas, said Bradenton police chief Michael Radzilowski. Authorities say they believe the body belongs to the girl, who has not been seen in months.

Police said a previous complaint showed that Thomas had five children, including Janiya.

“She’s done something with this child that she knows she should not have done and she will get charged for it once we can prove what it is she did”, said Lt. James Racky with the Bradenton Police Department.

“I’m anxious that if she doesn’t make it home, I’m gonna be anxious because we’ve never had a child out here missing”, says playmate Zamarah Everett.

The child was not at her mother’s residence when the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Child Protective Investigations arrived Friday to remove her, along with four of her siblings, from the house.

Keishanna Thomas was taken into custody for Contempt of Court.

Thomas was arrested and brought before a juvenile judge, where she again refused to provide information on her daughter’s whereabouts. Investigators are working to contact her family members in hopes of finding Janiya.
