“They’ve been going back to the scene on a daily basis with a fresh set of eyes”, he told The Associated Press Saturday.
Gliniewicz, 52, had been on patrol about 8 a.m. last Tuesday when he radioed that he was responding to suspicious activity, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
Tuesday marks one week since a Fox Lake Police Lieutenant was shot and killed while chasing three suspects.
A memorial is in place at the Fox Lake Police Department on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, in Fox Lake, Ill. for murdered officer, Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz.
Federal Bureau of Investigation technicians are piecing together surveillance videos to help in the search. After getting through the line and saying their goodbyes, they said the tragedy has started sinking in after nearly a week, and described the past few nights spent with Gliniewicz’s younger brother, Michael. Many expressed that they were not only grieving for the loss of an officer, but also for the loss of a family man, a friend and valued member of the community.
Authorities said Thursday they have recovered video from a homeowner’s security system that could provide clues in the search for the three men suspected in the slaying of Gliniewicz.
Vanderweel says he’ll keep a sign in his yard and a blue light on in his house until the men responsible for Gliniewicz’s death are caught. Scot Kurek of the sheriff’s department.
Gliniewicz was killed on the morning of September 1 in Fox Lake, a community of about 10,000 people in northern Illinois. Police cleared every home in the cordoned-off area and fielded more than 100 tips.
She said her husband was “the love of my life for the last 26½ years”.
