OH man who traveled to Caribbean diagnosed with Zika virus

New research suggests that it may be possible to transmit Zika virus through oral sex. She did not want to go into details about the person infected but said the local resident is not pregnant and recovering. It added more than 100 women to its report who were infected with the virus but showed no symptoms.

Of the two babies, only one had microcephaly, a neurological disorder associated with unusually small heads and, often, brain damage. It turns out that Zika – which has a proclivity for brain tissue – may be causing other kinds of neurological mayhem that only becomes apparent later in life with complications like impaired vision, hearing and development. The CDC has issued a number of travel warnings covering dozens of countries in the Zika virus outbreak.

As of late May, specimens from 57 individuals with a suspected exposure to Zika who were experiencing symptoms and/or were pregnant had been submitted to the Montana Public Health Laboratory for testing.

To prevent getting Zika virus, one must stay inside when the aedes are most active.

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel was in West Palm Beach on Monday to talk about the growing problem of the Zika virus.

Health authorities in northwest OH say they’ve talked to a 50-year-old man diagnosed with the Zika virus about preventing the spread of the virus.

Some days ago, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said that there exists a narrow window to boost the prevention measures for the protection of women and families from the tragic effects of the virus, and that the window is closing at a fast pace.

Zika can be spread by infected mosquitoes or through sexual intercourse.

Raising awareness, Dr SS Agarwal, National President, IMA and Dr KK Aggarwal, Honorary Secretary General, IMA said in a joint statement, “If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, it is recommended that you avoid traveling to countries where the Zika virus is present”.

Cases of the mosquito-transmitted disease have now been detected in 45 states and all three USA territories – and the threat is only growing.

Exposure to the virus can also leave some people “temporarily paralyzed,” according to Science. Wear clothes that minimise the exposure of skin to mosquito bites, and if there is a pregnant woman in the house, be extra vigilant. Iowans also are advised to wear long sleeves and long trousers when possible when outdoors and to avoid being outside around dusk and dawn when mosquitoes bite.
