Oh Maya! Moore hits victor to lift Lynx over Fever 80-77

Lynx update: The message Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve started delivering shortly after Maya Moore’s buzzer-beating three-pointer gave the Lynx an 80-77 victory Friday? The Lynx had to wait several nail-biting moments as the referees huddled around a monitor at mid-court before saying the shot was good. “I’m pretty mindful of things that have gone on before us, but that one’s got to be up there”.

While there have been only about 4,500 views of that video on YouTube, her game-winner against Indiana on Friday night has already drawn five times as many in the first 12 hours. “Definitely want to get her one before she retires”.

Indiana hosts Minnesota on Sunday night in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. The Fever, though, can take a few solace that in the three WNBA Finals that went to five games, the eventual champion trailed 2-1 after each Game 3. Indiana, meanwhile, wants to become the first No. 3 seed to win a title in championship history. The Fever are no strangers to having their backs up against the wall, having won all of their elimination games in the first two rounds of the playoffs. This one was a much tighter contest.

If the Fever win, they will be back in Minnesota for Game 5 on Wednesday.

The last tie occurred when Lynx guard Renee Montgomery took a pass from guard Anna Cruz and then hit a 24-foot jump shot to even the game 77-77 with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter.

Rookie Fever coach Stephanie White has seen her team really grow this season.

Both teams missed shots over the next 40 seconds before Indiana had the ball with 25 seconds left. “I feel like every single game we’ve gotten better”.

Moore finished with 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting in 22 minutes, with seven rebounds.

“It’s a long series, no one’s won anything yet, ” Moore shared. Seimone Augustus added 13 points, and Montgomery had 12.

With Minnesota’s star on the bench, Indiana got going on offense. Fever standout Tamika Catchings broke a WNBA postseason record Friday by participating in her 65th career playoff game….
