A Baptist pastor was allegedly shot and killed by his brother Sunday during services at his Dayton, Ohio, church, investigators and witnesses said.

The Rev. William Schooler turned over Sunday service at his OH church to the choir director and headed to his office.

Police said that William Schooler, 71, was shot at St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton.

The 68-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting and is now booked into the Montgomery County Jail and could face murder charges.

William Schooler also was a past interim president of the Dayton school board and current president of the local Baptist ministers union. He was expected to make his first court appearance on Monday, but Dayton Municipal Court officials until formal charges are filed Schooler won’t be arraigned, and officials expect that will happen Tuesday.

Police were called and made an arrest inside the church.

“I didn’t realize what was going on, but we heard a boom and then we all ran out of the church”.

Authorities are still searching for a motive behind the shooting, but they say neither the congregation nor community at large were the target. He was shot multiple times with a handgun, according to police.

“He had deep roots in the community”, friend Ronnie Moreland told WHIO.

Dayton City Commissioner Joey Williams told the Daily News he had discussed with Schooler ways to reduce violence in the community.

“For him to be a victim of violence is just extremely saddening”, he said.
