The Columbus Dispatch reported Friday the university has obtained a trademark for the name “Urban Meyer” from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

In a Cleveland.com poll – which was also the same poll distributed to Big Ten writers for their choice of the best conference team – Buckeyes Ezekiel Elliott and Joey Bosa were chosen to finish first as offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively. Whether it’s a sprained ankle or stuff [like a suspension], you try to create a culture and move forward.

“You push forward”, Meyer said. His loss on the defensive end can not be overstated, and the motivation this will give to Virginia Tech is sure to be significant. The Hokies upset the Buckeyes 35-21 in the second game of the 2014 season at Ohio Stadium.

Ohio State’s football commander in chief arrived at Thursday’s annual Big Ten football gathering at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and instantly assumed a black hole’s power, pulling in every media member, willing or not.

“If you go down our roster and see some of the other players who can step in, it shouldn’t be too worrisome”, he said. “So [Meyer’s] approach has been different”.

Meyer wouldn’t discuss why the players were suspended, only stating that the group is only expected to miss one game.

No one can be eliminated until camp starts, but Meyer talked about how the competition has already begun, with the leadership and weight room work and academic responsibilities of the quarterbacks charted this summer.

“I’m good with that if all the attention is on the other side”, Stave said, “and we’re able to quietly go about our business”. We’re going to wear cardinal and gold.

Repeating as national champions is historically hard. Or how, during spring practice the year after that, Meyer tore into a reporter for quoting one of his players with the warning, “If that was my son, we’d be going at it right now”. He also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting during his freshman season.

Ohio State’s players tell you that. The quarterback injuries were unfortunate, but everything else aligned perfectly in the second half of the season. That honor belongs to one-time third string quarterback Cardale Jones. But as Ohio State proved last year, it’s a team that truly subscribes (and thrives) to the “next man up” philosophy. Unforeseen problems inevitably arise, though. This year, bad luck might strike elsewhere.

“Obviously, when you lose the big defensive end, that everyone knows where he’s at, that’s a concern”, Meyer said. “This is one of those experiences where we correct what happened, we talk about it, we learn from it and then we move on”.

Ohio State defensive lineman Adolphus Washington said the team is used to tough times and yet the Buckeyes still found a way to win games in last season.

Joey Bosa and three teammates are suspended for the first game of the season.
