It’s still more than a year away, but Ohio will play host to the first of three presidential debates next year, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced Wednesday.

Eight days later, the vice presidential candidates will square off in their lone head-to-head debate of the election cycle, on October 4 at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

The 2016 general election presidential debates will take off at Ohio’s Wright State University.

However, Wright State has been in the national political spotlight previously.

Wright State President David Hopkins called the selection “very gratifying and humbling”, saying: “This is a huge win for all of us”.

But if previous debates are any indication, the upfront cost from the host site may be overshadowed by the amount of return from media exposure.

If previous presidential debates are any indicator, the cost of hosting a debate could range between one to six million dollars. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to host again”.

According to the Commission on Presidential Debates, the debate moderator and format will be announced at a later date.

“They quite obviously have confidence in us, ” he told reporters during a brief announcement. “It’s the university on center stage”.

The Wright State debate will be the first of four hosted the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Current President Barack Obama also spoke there in February 2008, when he was still seeking the Democratic nomination.
