Karen Bass, who told CBS affiliate WBNS-10TV that she had only been in the restaurant for about half an hour when the attack occurred, described a scene of chaos.

Police in Columbus Ohio shot and killed a man after he attacked people with a machete in a restaurant.

According to authorities, a man walked into the Nazareth Mediterranean restaurant and deli in Columbus, Ohio and started attacking people inside. “Some of the patrons there started throwing chairs at him just trying to get him out of there”, Weiner says.

The man’s identity has yet to be revealed and Columbus police say they believe it to be a random attack. The unidentified suspect was taken to a hospital but died of his wounds.

Sgt. Rich Weiner said there seemed to be “no rhyme or reason” to the attack. Officers forced the man off the road a few miles away and police say that when he got out of his auto, they tried unsuccessfully to use a stun gun on him. As of late Thursday night, police hadn’t identified those injured, their conditions or the name of the person who was killed.

Officers said that as they approached the suspect, he came out of the vehicle with a machete in one hand and a knife in the other.

It’s unclear what sparked the attacks.
