Ohio Republicans head home with mixed feelings on Trump
But Ohio Republicans weren’t joining in.

“We have to move forward and not be children about it”, Hartmann said. “‘Making America great again, ‘ was the casual reply”. But he did not want to antagonize republicans who are not on board with the polarizing Republican nominee. They chuckled at Johnson’s passionate outbursts.
Some wore “Team Kasich” pins or navy “Kasich for Us” hats from Gov. John Kasich’s failed presidential bid. And in the closest he came to alluding to Trump, Kasich offered this reflection: “I’m not a bumper sticker guy”.
But is that a message Ohio Republicans will embrace?
The Republican National Convention is in the books.
Portman has not been among speakers at the convention this week, though he was on the arena floor the night of July 20 to greet the state’s delegates. “We need to get our country back on the right track, and the economy and our safety are most important for our children”. “If Kasich is a Republican, his goal should be to get a Republican in the White House, and he’s not doing anything to help that goal”. He really tried. Portman, of Terrace Park, staged independent events in Cleveland most of the week, ranging from an opioid panel to kayaking to his own mini-state convention.
“I have no regrets for what I’ve done in my political career”, he said, adding, “I look in the mirror and I feel good about who I am”. “Cleveland was just fantastic”. We’ve learned that the only way to improve our state is by working together and creating real, tactical policy plans for growth. We needed a candidate who can keep his calm and still get the job done. Which moments of inclusiveness?
On Wednesday, he said a lovely Day Three of the convention in Cleveland masked an underlying problem – 230 people have died in the city from overdoses this year, a dramatic increase over last year. Kasich supporter and State Sen.
Trump’s campaign started the week by saying Kasich, the popular OH governor, was embarrassing himself.
“The one thing John Kasich can’t do is be inauthentic”, said Rath. “He is not backing down on anything”, DeWine said. So “even if I didn’t completely support him on trade, there would be so many other issues I would agree with him on”. If the Democrats get in, with the majority of the Senate and Hillary Clinton, they’re going to appoint judges who may be there through our lifetime.
Rath said this is his ninth convention.
“It’s my son’s 21st birthday tomorrow and I’m going to go home and buy him his first legal beer”. “I just think he’s an idiot”.
“This is one that they’ll talk about for a long time”. Trump and Hillary Clinton will be fighting hard for OH, and this, of course, ratchets up the pressure on folks like Triantafilou, who is responsible for getting his voters to the polls. Early Thursday, at a breakfast in a hotel several blocks from the convention hall, he spoke to them about why he can’t endorse Trump right now.
The next four months will prove whether Ohio Republicans’ words of goodwill toward Trump will turn into enthusiastic support for his still-limited campaign organization.

“I think we are moving in that direction”, DeWine said.
