Ohio sales tax holiday August 7

This year’s round of holidays starts on July 31 (get ready, Georgia and Mississippi!) and ends in late August, with each state’s tax-free period typically lasting one weekend.

You will pay no sales tax on clothing costing $75 or less. Every summer, a number of states hold sales tax holidays on all sorts of supplies, from notebooks and pencils to clothing and computers. There is no limit on spending or how many items can be purchased on the holiday, as long each tax-exempt item meets pricing thresholds. Hover over the map below-the sales dates in participating states will pop up, along with the eligible items. Local sales tax in participating communities will also be removed.

The sales tax holiday has been in effect for about a decade.

“Consumers in states that already have sales tax holidays absolutely love them”, Miller said.

“The back-to-school sales tax holiday is a great opportunity for Ohio families to make necessary purchases at a more affordable price”, said Clyde. “Folks are excited. The stores are having door-buster deals”.

Bacon said he plans to introduce legislation to make the sales tax holiday an annual event.

What’s not exempt: Laptop computers and other electronics, sporting goods, “costume masks”, certain clothing accessories and equipment, sewing items and higher-priced clothing and supplies.
