One student who’d been injured hid and was later found by authorities looking for students, Jones said.

The victims – Cameron Smith, 15, and Cooper Caffery, 14 – were in stable condition, Jones had said. He was surrounded and arrested in a wooded area a short distance from the school.
Jones says the boy is being questioned. “We have heard that many of you will be wearing red today!” That decision will ultimately be up to Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser and the judge in the case.
The 14-year-old shooting suspect, James Austin Hancock, remained in juvenile detention after denying charges including attempted murder through his attorney in a brief court hearing Tuesday. The next pre-trial hearing is set for April 5th. High School cafeteria. Police say that was at about 11:18 in the morning.
The Madison incident sadly underscores the fact that this kind of tragedy can happen anywhere and school districts must be prepared, said Kari Basson, community relations coordinator for the Kettering City School District.
Local parents undoubtedly were alarmed by the shooting in Madison Twp., and local school districts have a responsibility to know how to respond if these types of emergencies ever arise, said Howard, with the Trotwood-Madison school district.
The school resource officer was already on scene. It’s a school where students are also the children of staff, teachers and sheriff’s deputies.
The campus is near Middletown, roughly 30 miles north of Cincinnati. He said another student injured was preparing to come to school, but decided at the last moment that they weren’t ready.
