Investigators say four students were injured.
Shrapnel hit Murray in the calves and thighs; he was sitting at a lunch table with two boys who were shot.
One student who’d been injured hid and was later found by authorities looking for students, Jones said.
“He was holding the gun like this”, Conner said, holding out his hand and mimicking a gun with his fingers, tilting it sideways. With a gun? What are they doing with a gun?’ ” the affiliate reported Ahmed said.
“Words can not express the gratitude we feel for all of the support that has been shown our family and community”, the statement concluded. He has no prior criminal record, authorities said, and has not been in trouble at school. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, inducing panic and making terrorist threats.
A sheriff’s deputy stationed in the school had just been in the cafeteria, said Jones, who said the shooting underscores the need for every school to have such a police presence and to allow specially trained staff members to have access to firearms, too. The victims – Cameron Smith, 15, and Cooper Caffery, 14 – were in stable condition, Jones had said. He was surrounded and arrested in a wooded area a short distance from the school.
Jones says the boy is being questioned. “We have heard that many of you will be wearing red today!” That decision will ultimately be up to Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser and the judge in the case.
The 14-year-old shooting suspect, James Austin Hancock, remained in juvenile detention after denying charges including attempted murder through his attorney in a brief court hearing Tuesday. The next pre-trial hearing is set for April 5th. High School cafeteria. Police say that was at about 11:18 in the morning.
The Madison incident sadly underscores the fact that this kind of tragedy can happen anywhere and school districts must be prepared, said Kari Basson, community relations coordinator for the Kettering City School District.
Local parents undoubtedly were alarmed by the shooting in Madison Twp., and local school districts have a responsibility to know how to respond if these types of emergencies ever arise, said Howard, with the Trotwood-Madison school district.
The school resource officer was already on scene. It’s a school where students are also the children of staff, teachers and sheriff’s deputies.
The campus is near Middletown, roughly 30 miles north of Cincinnati. He said another student injured was preparing to come to school, but decided at the last moment that they weren’t ready. An Ohio sheriff says a 14-year-old suspect in the school shooting that w… “I don’t know what they were expecting, if they were expecting scenes from Columbine or Sandy Hook, but this was not that”.
It took those medics less than 5 minutes after their initial call to evaluate the injuries and call care flight.
The same held true on Wednesday, when students arrived by buses and cars.
A law enforcement official says a shooting at a southwestern OH school district injured four students, with two shot and two hurt some other way.
