Stay strong, don’t give up and keep fighting.
The Ohio State community is mourning the loss of Ohio State baseball pitcher Zach Farmer who died Tuesday after his battle with leukemia.
OSU baseball coach Greg Beals said that Farmer’s legacy will live on well past his 21 years of life. Farmer passed away earlier that morning.
“On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, especially Zach’s nurse practitioner Jon Mickle”.
Farmer’s twitter bio offered a reminder to everyone. We will dearly miss our fellow Buckeye, teammate and friend Zach Farmer.
Adam Niemeyer, a rising redshirt sophomore pitcher for the Buckeyes, said he and his teammates are supporting each other through this tough time. “Zach was a remarkable young man who inspired us all”.
“We just hung out with him”, Niemeyer said. Later in the week during his Hall of Fame induction speech, Johnson shared Farmer’s story with the world. Johnson called him in late July, and the two talked baseball for a few hours. After a doctor’s visit, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on April 28, 2014. I feel blessed to have had Zach in our program and the opportunity to coach him.
Farmer was 6-4 with a 3.28 ERA in 10 appearances, including nine starts with 34 strikeouts in 49.1 innings pitched for the Scarlet and Gray.
However, on July 15, Farmer received news that his leukemia had returned, and that his chance of survival was slim.

Farmer immediately began chemotherapy treatments and was declared cancer-free on June 6, 2014. He was 21 years old. They had their reception in the gymnasium of Farmer’s former school – Piketon High School – on July 19, just days after he learned of his fatal diagnosis.
