According to Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch, the sophomore has been dealing with a nagging shoulder ailment for quite some time, and his season could reportedly be in jeopardy depending upon the results of an MRI.

Tate has been the most consistent player throughout the season and a strong rebounder and defender, despite playing undersized.

Losing Tate would be a significant blow for Ohio State’s hopes to finish the season strongly.

On Tuesday night, Ohio State announced that sophomore forward Jae’Sean Tate will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury that will require surgery. It’s possible that he re-aggravated the injury in the second half, perhaps after his memorable floor slap while guarding Tai Webster.

Tate, who is from Pickerington, has started in all 28 games this year for the Buckeyes.

Tate came out of the game immediately to have the shoulder looked at after previously needing to leave the game in the first half as well due to the injury.

The Ohio State men’s basketball team has three games against two of the nation’s best teams remaining on its schedule before postseason play begins. He’s averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds, so it’s a pretty sizable loss for the Buckeyes. Without Tate, even winning one of those games could be a tall order.
