Ohio State QB Barrett pleads guilty to driving while impaired

Meyer said Barrett told him he did not believe he was impaired.Barrett was home October 31 relaxing with friends when a “heavily intoxicated” friend stopped by and Barrett chose to drive him home, said Barretts attorney, Phil Templeton. With things settling in offensively, Barrett couldn’t have picked a worst time to make a bad decision.

Barrett was cited at a sobriety checkpoint near the Ohio State campus Halloween morning.

However, yet again, with Cardale Jones as the starting QB, Ohio State struggled to score points. This season, the St. Louis native has rushed for 1,244 yards, and became the first Buckeye since Chris “Beanie” Wells to rush for consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.

On Monday, coach Urban Meyer indicated Barrett would start Saturday’s game against IL. “He’s one of the best punt returners in America right now”.

Redshirt junior quarterback Cardale Jones led the Buckeyes in the absence of J.T. Barrett, and threw for 187 yards and a touchdown.

Smith said he didn’t know if Gibson would be on the 70-player travel roster for IL but expects him to be in uniform next week against MI State, barring a setback.

After a stifling effort that held Minnesota to just 33 rushing yards, six players alongside the OSU defensive line received champion grades.

Several Gophers had a good game on defense including Cody Poock (10 tackles, .5 TFL) and De’Vondre Campbell (9 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack), but Jack Lynn had the biggest impact. The key plays were Jones running 19 yards from his own 15 on a third-and-18 and his 44-yard pass to Jalin Marshall.

He pled guilty at his arraignment hearing, apologized to the judge, Ohio State fans and his teammates for getting an OVI (Ohio’s version of a DUI).

While it’s not easy to compare opponents, Barrett accounted for 324 running and passing yards and five touchdowns in a 49-7 win against Rutgers on October 24 in his first start of the season.

“I just wanted to be a spark and make plays for the team”, he said.

With just a little breather every now and then the Ohio State defense could go from very good, to one that dominates. “They outsmarted us sometimes”.
