Ohio State still third in rankings

Oklahoma could face another freshman, Forest Sawyer, who completed just one pass last Saturday against Kansas – but it was 42 yards for a touchdown.

The Cowboys are the “fun” team in the top four. By the way, that loss is looking worse by the week, but nobody cares because EYE TEST. The top four teams in the final CFP rankings on December 6 will meet in a four-team playoff to decide the national champion. They can win out and not stay in the top four, even though committee chairman Jeff Long said Notre Dame was a solid No. 4. Notre Dame (9-1) 5. The Big 12 will undoubtedly be rooting hard for Stanford to beat Notre Dame … although at No. 11, Stanford isn’t totally out of it despite its two losses. Greer, I thought, did a very nice job as a cover linebacker for us against Wake. The highest ranked conference champion from the Group of 5 conferences (American, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt) also will receive a bowl spot. While teams like Notre Dame and Alabama play tougher schedules, Baylor’s none conference included the likes of Lamar and SMU; not exactly world beaters.

Should be higher after throttling TCU.

“There truly are with three weeks left so many things that can occur”, Long said.

You see what’s happening?

Again, we like to get worked up about these College Football Rankings, but still, it doesn’t matter much.

Instead of football-thirsty fans and selfish media pushing for an eight-team playoff, just enjoy the play-in-or-play-out matchups taking place over the next three weeks.

If Oklahoma State loses, the Big 12 champ will at best finish 11-1 and there is no championship game for the conference, which basically left both Baylor and TCU out previous year.

MI still has a path to a Big Ten championship, so we can’t rule the Wolverines out altogether.

The top four remain the same with the Clemson Tigers still at No. 1 along with Alabama at No. 2. The Bears, still boasting the nation’s best offense, are fresh off a loss to Oklahoma, who Oklahoma State doesn’t play until the final week of the season. It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely.

Unbeaten Houston, coached by former Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman, is 19th.

The Wildcats are overrated and still riding the season-opening win over Stanford.

In order for the Big 12 to make the Playoff, it really needs Oklahoma to win out. If they do, they could control their own destiny.

Cause for concern: It feels like these close calls are going to catch up to the Cowboys at a few point.

If Navy is in the mix, the committee would announce the pairing for one of the New Year’s Six bowls – either the Fiesta or Peach -and one participant in the other New Year’s Six bowl, holding the other spot in that game for the Group of Five rep. The Big 12 was shutout of the first playoff past year but stand a great chance to get in the second time around with the Sooners at No. 7 one spot behind their in-state rivals. Stanford’s only loss came in the opener at Northwestern with a 9 a.m. Pacific kickoff.
