Ohio State wins Fiesta Bowl with romp over Notre Dame
Those skills should translate well in the NFL.

Sean Nuremberger kicked three fourth-quarter field goals for the Buckeyes, his last with 2:42 remaining.
Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa, one of the top prospects in college football, was ejected from Friday’s Fiesta Bowl after drawing a targeting penalty for this first-quarter hit on Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer.
“With all due respect to all the other great running backs in Ohio State history, if I had my first-round draft pick I’d pick Zeke Elliott”, Meyer said.
I touched on Ohio State’s dominance on 1st down yesterday and how that figured into the win but the Buckeyes were damn good on 3rd down as well.
The pair of Buckeyes sidestepped, stiff-armed and ran right through the Irish defense to the tune of 245 yards, carrying their squad to a 44-28 victory in the desert. A few plays later, Kizer would score from a yard out to cut the lead to 28-14 just before halftime.
The Irish were more efficient on offense after Bosa’s ejection, but their defense couldn’t contain Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett or running back Ezekiel Elliott.
1936 The a year ago Notre Dame defeated Ohio State in their six all-time meetings, with four straight losses since 1995.
But as impressive as Elliott’s performance was, his 47-yard score and a large chunk of his yardage came later in the game, after Irish junior linebacker Jaylon Smith left the game with a knee injury.
Another year will roll by without Notre Dame – known through the years for its ability to battle with and defeat the heavyweights of the game – winning a major bowl game, as they last did on January 1, 1994 against Texas A&M when an up-and-coming coach named Bob Davie was still defensive coordinator of the Aggies. “You lose a guy like that early on, it significantly affects what you’re doing defensively”.
“We don’t want to be playing directional teams with no profile”. This game gave him ample opportunity to make big plays with his legs, and Barrett made the majority.
_On the offensive: Kizer was 22-for-37 for 284 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Notre Dame.
“That was a kidney shot”, Meyer said of the reverberation felt by the Buckeyes.
He was predictably excellent against Notre Dame, finishing with four touchdowns on 27 carries totaling 149 yards.
Dobbs scored on runs 14 and 18 yards, and Jalen Hurd rushed for 130 yards and one TD for the Volunteers (9-4), who finished with at least nine wins for the first time since 2007.
Ohio State’s biggest problem in some unimpressive wins early in the season and in its one loss came on offense.
Rose Bowl – Christian McCaffrey caught a 75-yard touchdown pass on the opening snap and returned a punt 66 yards for another score while setting the Rose Bowl record with 368 all-purpose yards, propelling No. 5 Stanford to a 45-16 victory over sixth-ranked Iowa.
“He’s a physical back”.
Defensive lineman Sheldon Day was not at full strength but made it through his final college game. “He did some special things with his feet today”.
Bosa chose not to dispute the call in the locker room after the game. More Information For more on college football, follow Tom Davis on Twitter at Tom101010.

Kizer connected with Chris Brown on a 4-yard touchdown pass to open the second half, pulling the Irish within a touchdown. He diagnosed pressure and got the ball out quickly. The drive was all Barrett and Elliot as they combined for 59 yards on the ground during their 11 play, 62 yard drive.
