OIC Contact Group on Kashmir meets amid PM’s address at UN

The members of the OIC Contact Group expressed their complete solidarity with the valiant struggle of the Kashmiri people.

In occupied Kashmir, the Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi, has appealed to Pakistan and all other member counties of the UN General Assembly to take all possible measures during the ongoing UNGA session to force India to give the Kashmiris their right to self-determination.

Chaired by Secretary General of the OIC, Iyad Ameen Madani, the meeting was attended by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Expressing concerns over the violation of basic human rights in the Indian-held Kashmir, the OIC Secretary General called for an immediate end to the Indian oppression and atrocities in the valley.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has urged Britain to play its role in convincing India to stop brutal use of force in the Occupied Kashmir.Talking to British Prime Minister Therasa in NY, the Prime Minister said people of Jammu and Kashmir must be allowed to chose their destination under UN Security Council resolutions.He said gross human rights violations and brutal state oppression in the Indian Occupied Kashmir were at their peak and it was the duty of the global community to ask India to immediately end state atrocities against innocent and defenseless Kashmiris.

According to Radio Pakistan, the interior minister said the struggle for freedom of Kashmiris can not be suppressed by Indian repression.

“Underscoring that the Kashmir dispute remains central to lasting peace and stability in South Asia, the Adviser regretted that India had failed to reciprocate Pakistan’s proposal of meaningful engagement for the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute”, according to a statement by the OIC contact group.

Emphasising the urgency of resolving Kashmir dispute, Turkey’s Foreign Minister said peace in the region was linked with Kashmir. Highlighting the violations of worldwide human rights and humanitarian laws in the occupied territory, the primer reminded the permanent members of the UNSC to fulfill their responsibility of the Kashmir dispute – the oldest internationally recognised unresolved dispute on UNSC agenda.

“Pakistan would not step back from its moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiri people”, Nisar said while talking to Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider, who called upon the interior minister in Islamabad. The True Representatives also presented a Memorandum to the OIC Secretary General.
