OJ Simpson,’ ‘Game of Thrones’ lead Emmy nominations
African-American actor Anthony Anderson, who co-hosted the Emmy nomination announcements, shouted with joy as he was named a contender for best comedy actor in the ABC sitcom “black-ish”. So was “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson, while Aziz Ansari’s freshman comedy “Master of None” earned a top series nod and an acting nomination for him.

The nods for the series also included best supporting actor and actress nominations for last year’s victor Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headley, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams and nods for writers David Benioff and D B Weiss.
The Emmy Awards nominations told us what is already evident – the power and reputation of streaming services Netflix and Amazon are on the rise, and broadcast networks and even longtime premium cable star HBO are paying the price. The #1 brand in comedy once again dominated the Variety Sketch Series category claiming three of the six nominees (“Drunk History”, “Inside Amy Schumer”, “Key & Peele”), with Amy Schumer (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series) and Keegan Michael-Key (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series) earning acting nominations for the second consecutive year.
In a report by Fox News, the medieval-fantasy series received the most Emmy nominations with 23, including Best Drama.
Hiddleston is nominated for his role in the popular BBC series The Night Manager, while his co-stars Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman earned nods in the supporting role categories.
“Game of Thrones” won a record 12 Emmys last fall, including best drama.
HBO’s political satire “Veep” led the comedy race with 17 nominations, including a nod for best actress for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Rounding out the best drama race are Showtime’s Central Intelligence Agency thriller “Homeland”, FX’s Cold War espionage saga “The Americans”, AMC’s quirky legal story “Better Call Saul”, Netflix’s political mystery “House of Cards”, the final season of PBS’s period melodrama “Downton Abbey” and USA Network’s freshman cyberhacking drama “Mr. Robot”.
Apart from Harington, several members of the cast were also nominated for best thespian for a drama.
Its competition, in addition to “black-ish”, “Master of None” and “Transparent”, includes HBO’s “Silicon Valley”, ABC’s “Modern Family” and Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”.
