OJ Simpson Win Big at the Emmys

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who stars in the political satire “Veep”, said in her award acceptance speech that she would “like to take the opportunity to personally apologize for our current political climate” and said that “Veep” now appears to be a “sobering documentary” – rather than a comedy.

When Smith was later awarded the title for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama – increasing her award count to four – Kimmel grabbed her Emmy and said, “No, no, no!” The Emmy’s this year also took note of the fabulous performances and awarded the best among the lot. But even when she’s used to getting up on stage to receive an Emmy, the comedienne was still emotional.

We have the best cast that’s I think ever been assembled.

Later she had the audience eating out of her hand when she said: “I feel so lucky to be on a show that puts women at the center”.

She promised to “rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”.

Kimmel handed some out, too, at one point asking the actors to raise their hands if they had a gluten allergy.

Damon tells the host, “I’m sorry, I mean, you lost, but now you gotta stand out here for the rest of the night in front of everybody, when you probably just wanna go home and curl up and cry”.

Veteran shows dominated the awards at this year’s Emmys, which were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, with HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” winning best drama and best comedy, respectively, for the second straight year.

“Here in Hollywood the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity”, Kimmel joked during his opening. It was her sixth lead actress win overall, a record for the category. It was her third win for playing the role of a dowager and like always she didn’t attend the ceremony.

JLD accepted her fifth consecutive Emmy Award for her portrayal of Selina Meyer on Veep and dedicated her win to her late father, who died on Friday.

“Are you nominated?” Bush asks Kimmel, who was looking for a ride to the awards ceremony. Even that couldn’t rock Kimmel’s relentless even keel, as he made a smartly measured joke wondering if bringing down the patriarchy was good for him or not, then transitioning to a why-hasn’t-somebody-said-this-before bon mot about Transparent being a drama that identified as a comedy. He was also a no-show. John Oliver received the best variety talk series award for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”. And Paulson made a public apology to Marcia Clark for failing to recognize the former prosecutor not as a “complicated, whip-smart, giant-hearted mother of two. righting an unconscionable wrong”, but seeing her 20 years ago as the “two-dimensional cardboard cutout I saw on the news”.

Combined with its 12 wins at the Creative Arts Emmys last week, the 18 total wins for FX are a record for a basic cable network.

Actress, Limited Series or Movie: Sarah Paulson, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”. FX tied HBO with six wins, with honors for “Baskets” in addition to the limited-series wins for its Simpson drama.
