Celebrities and other well-known public figures weren’t the only ones to sound off on what has come to be known as Black Twitter, with many other African-American users and organizations expressing their opinion on the verdict. All of the victims except one was Black. This is especially unsettling when it has been determined that over 1000 police officers were decertified for sexual assault between 2009 and 2014.

City said in a statement that the department was satisfied with the outcome of the “long and hard trial and deliberation process”. He says he’s proud of his detectives and local prosecutors, according to the Associated Press. He was sacked before the trial started.

Below is a look at the cases in which Holtzclaw was convicted.

The event featuring the victims in the case began with a prayer that both thanked the Lord for the verdict and also prayed for Holtzclaw. “And we’re going to ask him to run consecutive, every count”.

What am I going to do? “The jury was able to see through that”.

“All I can say is I was a victim, I was traumatized, I went to therapy, I had a stroke behind this”, she said.

The grandmother was the first to testify. She said she was pulled over for no reason and as she was begging the officer not to make her do what he was asking for. But this case does highlight the fact that so many Black women were abused before anyone even noticed – a fact that I, as a USA citizen, feel very ashamed of.

His father – a police officer in Enid, about 100 miles northwest of Oklahoma City – his mother and sister were in the courtroom as the verdict was read. He then stood over her and ordered her to perform oral sex.

The women testified that Holtzclaw stopped them while they were walking or driving alone. He attacked the 17-year-old victim on her mother’s porch.

“It went like this for the three-dozen charges, while Holtzclaw, the fired police officer, rocked and cried, occasionally putting his head on the table”.

Today is Daniel Holtzclaw’s 29th birthday.

Holtzclaw was emotional, sobbing and shaking uncontrollably as Judge Timothy Henderson read the verdict. His lawyer declined to comment after the verdict. The Oklahoma City Police Department did the right thing, and so did we. The judge will hand down final sentencing on January 21, 2016.

For the most part, these women were said to have prior criminal issues like warrants and drug offenses which Holtzclaw used to intimidate, exploit, and abuse them.

The youngest was the 17-year-old girl. Sixty percent of black women are sexually assaulted before the age of 18, according to research conducted by the organization Black Women’s Blueprint and reported by BET. Several have drug addictions or criminal records.

The allegations against him brought new attention to the problem of sexual misconduct committed by law enforcement. “Yet, inclusion of Black women’s experiences in social movements, media narratives, and policy demands around policing and police brutality is critical to effectively combating racialized state violence for black communities and other communities of color”.

Franklin and others outside the courtroom in Oklahoma City regarded the wait for the jury’s decision as a hopeful sign they were carefully considering each count. It’s to be announced soon. The former cop was not convicted on half of the 36 charges against him, which included rape, sexual battery, burglary, indecent exposure and stalking. Prosecutors allege Holtzclaw targeted women in the low-income neighborhood that he patrolled. The officers called an ambulance for her. At a nearby hospital, S.H. was given a drink to help her come down from the drugs.

“A lot of people didn’t think these women could get justice”, Crump said.

Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, was convicted on Thursday of charges accusing him of sexually assaulting multiple women during his duty as an Oklahoma City police officer. Count 1, sexual battery.

The eight-man, four-woman jury has been considering Holtzclaw’s fate since Monday.

I saw “sort of” because Holtzclaw is what could most crudely be described as “sort of white”, and the intersections of between race and gender in this case are many and nuanced and mostly overlooked. They deliberated Wednesday for almost 13 hours before disbanding for the night without reaching a verdict. On Thursday night, the jury opted to believe (most of) them.

The jurors recommended a total of 263 years of prison time for Holtzclaw’s crimes.
