The Supreme Court has sway over cases that affect the Hispanic community, including education, voting rights and executive actions by President Barack Obama that extend deportation protections to undocumented immigrants, Saavedra said.

Of course, the issue is very partisan; some may argue entirely partisan as Garland has been lauded as an excellent judge from many quarters.

“I enjoyed talking to him but nothing has changed”, Grassley told CNN on Tuesday. Democrats refused to act on President George W. Bush’s 2001 nomination of Miguel Estrada to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, a panel viewed as a path to a Supreme Court seat.

Patty Judge, after he announced that his committee would not hold hearings.Kirk, who is a Chicago Cubs fan, also said he asked Garland which baseball team he supports.

“We knew this would be not a week process, but a month-by-month process”, said Sen.
