Oklahoma Schools Honored For Academic Excellence
In its 33-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on almost 8,000 of America’s schools.

This is the first time that any school within the Baltic district has earned the award, and for long-time teachers it’s about validation. “The rigor and relevance of the lessons are important, of course, but it is the relationships that are fostered between every staff member, from the classroom, to the office to the custodial team that make Dougherty a National Blue Ribbon School”.
MALAKOFF-It’s official: Malakoff Elementary School was named a National Blue Ribbon School on Tuesday, September 29.
Howery said although being nationally recognized is an honor, their work isn’t done.
Schmelzenbach and former principal Dr. Sherry Rowan will accept the honor formally at a recognition ceremony November. 9-10 in Washington, D.C.
Each state’s education department nominates certain schools and the federal government then takes recommendations and chooses winners, Coleman said.
“We’re all excited about it”, Superintendent Steve McLaren said. The Department of Education has honored 7,500 schools nationwide.
“It shows that Catholic elementary schools really do work, they really do focus on the complete education of all of children no matter where in the city they come from”, she says. “I think what sets us apart is our personal, authentic approach”.
In the past few years, Trousdale County High School has been named a Reward School twice, and recently reported an average ACT score a full point above the state average.
The school’s curriculum at all grade levels emphasizes learning through performing community service in a program called “Henry’s Helping Hands”. PHS ranked sixth in Southwest Wisconsin with a 79.7, while Westview Elementary School ranked third with an 82.7, and Platteville Middle School ranked fifth, with an 80. PPS and PHS got the highest ranking of any school district and high school west of Madison and south of La Crosse.

Delaware also had three schools win blue ribbon status past year: John Clayton Elementary in Frankford and Lake Forest North Elementary in Felton, as well as the now-embattled Academy of Dover charter school.
