Oklahoma State Cowboys enjoyed a stellar performance from receiver James Washington in last week’s shootout victory over Pittsburgh 45-38.

After cruising through its non-conference slate, the 16th-ranked Bears opened Big 12 play in impressive fashion, knocking off Oklahoma State 35-24 at home to improve to 4-0 overall. “You travel on the road, turn the ball over three times and then defensively you give up way too many big plays”. “It’s reasonable for him to be upset, and we’ve got to correct it”. In rushing, JaMycal Hasty ran for 105 yards and a touchdown in 14 carries while Terence Williams added 79 yards and a touchdown in 12 carries. The Cowboys gave up four turnovers to Baylor’s two.

Oklahoma State answered back with an end zone appearance from Justice Hill after a fumble recovery by Tanner Morgan to tie the game 7-all. Mason Rudolph threw for 540 yards and two touchdowns in 26-for-46 passes. Four plays later, the Bears struck for a TD and a 21-14 lead. He also scored his first touchdown.

“I told our team in the locker room after the game that we didn’t always play our best. He came out firing and he did some great things like we knew he would”. “If you can’t take care of the ball, it doesn’t do us any good to have you in there”.

“I hate it”, Gundy said. The Bears were stuffed and the Cowboys took over. “I was just really proud of the way our defense bowed their necks when they had to make plays down the stretch”. “He’s another weapon to put in the offense, and he’s a great guy”. A 27-yard field goal from Ben Grogan then trimmed the Bear’s lead 28-24. It didn’t get off to a good start for the Cowboys. It was the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Oklahoma State’s next chance with the ball – after the Cowboy defense forced a punt – saw a heavy dose of Hill.

The Cowboys tied the game at 21-21 on their opening drive of the third quarter. KD Cannon, Baylor’s top receiver, spent the second half in street clothers after pulling a groin muscle. “We wanted to be able to establish some running game, use a bit of clock with playing on the road”. He also led the team in rushing with 65 yards on 10 attempts. “And he’s a freshman, I understand that, but he’s got to learn to take care of the football”.

However, the Bears momentum was cut short when lightning was spotted in the vicinity, but senior quarterback Seth Russell said it was something they have mentally prepared for. Russell added 387 yards in the air, including an 89 yard bomb to Chris Platt for a touchdown.

“They run the stop-and-go on the outside”. That set up third and 23, miraculously saved by Rudolph evading yet more pressure for a 25-yard gain… only for the Cowboys to lose a fumble at the goal line, which Gundy said wiped away any sense of achievement. Both of Zamora’s touchdowns came on 38-yard receptions, while Childs’ both came on 3-yard runs.
