The unranked Texas Longhorns will welcome the No. 24 Oklahoma State Cowboys to Austin this Saturday as the nationally-ranked Cowboys visit Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Oklahoma State wasn’t satisfied with its running game in its first two games and, while the defense played well, the Cowboys had generated just one turnover.

Texas’ head coach, Charlie Strong, is known as a defensive-minded coach, so if he can build a great defense and pair it with Heard’s explosive offense, the Longhorns could be back in business in the coming years.

For a young team led by a young quarterback, making a statement in this game would be a big step in the right direction. Over the last few years, though, it’s been just a game. Cal recovered the onside kick and held on for the 45-44 win. This is now a matchup of the Big 12’s best offenses behind Baylor’s nation’s-best 754 total yards and 61 points a game. Oklahoma State won its three nonconference games by an average score of 42-12 … Their 3-0 which is what they wanted to be going into this game and have done so without showing much. Texas ranks 75th in scoring offense (29.7) and 99th in total offense (363.3). The Cowboys are in the top 50 nationally in all three categories.
The final score came when Robertson scooped up a fumble by Corbin White and ran it back 22 yards for the touchdown with just 1:25 on the clock. Quarterback Mason Rudolph has completed 69 percent of his passes with 5 TDs and only one interception. An 89-yard punt return for a touchdown against Rice and 145 yards receiving against Cal show how valuable he is to this young team. Raymond Taylor has 3 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown. I don’t blame them for that, but at the same time with your front four not getting there you may want to try something different.
Texas is being outscored 37-30 this season. The Longhorns are #104 or worse in all defensive categories including points allowed out of 128 FBS teams. Quarterback Jared Goff threw for over 300 yards in the Golden Bears’ first two games, and he could be a factor in the Heisman race if California proves to be a real threat in the Pac-12 race.
The star-crossed days of Wickline, Watson and former starting quarterback Tyrone Swoopes are over. In rushing, D’Onta Foreman had 47 yards and one touchdown in nine attempts.
Receiver Daje Johnson has 11 catches for 190 yards.
One player Heard seems to like playing with is wide receiver John Burt.
Oklahoma State is 3-0 on the season, 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 with the under. The road team is 8-0 ATS in this series recently. Texas likely won’t be facing a situation where their senior kicker chokes and loses the game again. He needs 10 more to match his father, Brian Treggs, who played at Cal from 1988-91….
Texas is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games.
