This is the scene of a tornado ripping through a residential area after touching down near Wynnewood, Oklahoma, in the United States on Monday.
Tornadoes that touched down in Oklahoma late Monday afternoon are also responsible for claiming two lives. However, forecasters were quick to warn the residents of the coming storms that weekend.
An EF4 tornado bears wind speeds between 166 and 200 miles per hour while an EF3 wind speeds are from 136 to 165 mph. The National Weather Service damage survey assessment list is rather long and complex, but the details are available here on the Storm Prediction Center’s Frequently Asked Questions page.
Smith said the damage measured in Garvin and Murray counties was consistent with at least an EF3 tornado, a category of tornadoes that are capable of stripping the outer walls from even well-made homes.
Springtime storms are continuing their march across the central USA, with big hail and powerful winds again a concern in some areas.
At least two people were killed when as many as 23 unconfirmed tornadoes spawned from a severe weather event that endured through the weekend and into Monday evening.
Two people have been killed by strong tornadoes that swept across portions of southern Oklahoma. He held on until the twister passed, but his home collapsed during the storm.
