Pranay Jivrajka, Chief Operating Officer at Ola said, “We are excited to launch the pilot of Bike Taxis in Bengaluru”. At an introductory fare of 2 per km and 1 per minute of trip time, Bike Taxis will be available to book through Ola’s app in the city of Bangalore to begin with.

Initially, uberMOTO service will be available at selected areas in Bengaluru between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm with fares as low as Rs 3 per kilometre and the base fare will be Rs 15.

Briefing about the security, the company in their statement said that they have ensured the safety of their customers by providing them with helmets to the riders and the pillion too.

The regular Uber features such as Global Positioning System tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share your location with friends and family are also included.

Ola, however has priced its services a rupee lower than UberMoto.

Uber launched last month a pilot of its motorbike service in Bangkok. “Enabling transportation at the push of a button, uberMOTO will offer another affordable mobility option that will help people save time and money while helping cut congestion in our cities over time”, said Amit Jain, president, Uber India, in a statement.

People who own motorbikes/scooters can also become drivers on the platform and recoup the costs of their trips.

By offering motorbike rides through their apps, the companies haven’t invented a new mode of paid transport.
