Ole Miss 27, Auburn 19: Five things we learned
Junior quarterback Chad Kelly passed for 381 yards and two touchdowns as No. 19 Ole Miss snapped a five-game slide at Jordan-Hare Stadium with a 27-19 victory over Auburn on Saturday. “Without that, the offense is going to sputter and it’s going to be hot and cold and you don’t want that, you want consistency”.

Overall – D: Auburn did enough to be in this game, but like the Mississippi State and Arkansas games, not enough to win. This Saturday, I’ll know we’ll be ready.
Kelly has already thrown for 2,856 yards this season and even though Arkansas’ O-line is bigger than any other football team’s in America, the Razorback’s defense is ranked 128 in the FBS for yards allowed.
The Ole Miss Rebels (6-2) are coming from a 23-3 win over Texas A&M last week.
Coaching – D: Play calling showed little imagination at times and seemed hard to understand in the red zone.
The Rebels defense stood firm, too, after that.
And just remember-the 2003 LSU would have meant nothing without a dropped pass in the end zone earlier that fall by Auburn’s Ben Obomanu vs. Ole Miss. Ole Miss has struggled to get off the field on third downs in recent weeks, but Auburn converted just 2 of 15 opportunities Saturday.
Rebels Coach Hugh Freeze wasn’t about to punt the ball away after recent special teams disasters around college football. Yet the numbness Auburn fans are feeling can be derived from the following reality check: Gus Malzahn went 7-1 in his first eight SEC games as the Tiger’s head coach: Over his last eight SEC games he has gone 1-7. I’ll have more thoughts on that and the game as a whole tomorrow.
“I think every player on our team wanted to make that play”, Treadwell said. Jaylen Walton is Mississippi’s top rusher with 506 yards and three touchdowns and Laquon Treadwell has 61 receptions and six touchdowns.
Freeze and Treadwell preferred focusing on the task at hand not the past.
He said he wanted Auburn to “feel my pain”, and that happened.
“We just sort of talked about it and you’ll have to ask him exactly what the plan was, but I called a bunch of plays”, Werner said.
The Ole Miss Rebels are 7-2 this season and still have a chance to win the SEC West as they have just one loss in the SEC.
Postgame fallout: The Gamecocks put up a fight, but the quickness of new A&M starting QB Murray gives the Aggies’ offense a new dimension. He ran for 156 yards and a TD on 20 carries and threw for 223 yards, a TD and no interceptions. Also, on a trick play, Treadwell completed a pass that saw him avoiding multiple pass-rushers while keeping his eyes downfield. He wore a brace on his left knee and was limping at times. Leading rusher Peyton Barber wasn’t fully healthy either.
The Tigers then converted consecutive field goals to come within one point, 20-19, the first with 14:34 left in the game and the second with 12:00 remaining.

Auburn started defensive end Carl Lawson, who had been out since he suffered a hip injury in the opener.
