Ole Miss’ CB Webster, RB Swinney out for season

In a preview for Showtime’s “A Season With Florida State Football”, which premieres tonight, current Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is shown giving a halftime speech to the Seminoles, who were trailing 28-13 at the break. Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois (12) throws a pass as he is rushed by MS linebacker Alex Ashlock (44) during the first half of an NCAA college football game in Orlando, Fla., Monday, Sept. 5, 2016. In his two seasons at Florida State, he’s had only one receiving touchdown, but also dropped a clear opportunity at one on Monday night after he fumbled the ball at the goal line, despite the lack of an Ole Miss defender anywhere in sight.

Turning point: Even after the Seminoles scored a quick 10 points to start the third quarter, they still trailed 28-23 and had yet to consistently stifle the Rebels’ offense.

Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns but was intercepted three times.

The Seminoles had a second-half surge led by Francois.

“Y’know with a guy like Chad, in order to get pressure you have to stay in your rush lanes”. It’s just a football game, but as Florida State stormed back for the lead, it felt like so much more.

Although it’s technically a neutral-site game, the crowd will be heavily weighted toward the home-state Seminoles. In fact, Ole Miss does not have a drive longer than 2 minutes and 19 seconds through three quarters of play. All was forgiven later, as Cook ended his night with 192 all-purpose yards, including 101 receiving yards.

It was the first time the offense looked like it was in a groove since the end of the first half.

Perhaps Winston’s speech wasn’t the reason the Seminoles came back to win, but it certainly didn’t hurt.

Webster confirmed that his season is over through social media while Swinney’s absence was confirmed by coach Hugh Freeze to ESPN.com on Tuesday.

1,691 Rushing yards were gained by Florida State RB Dalvin Cook, the most in the ACC. Cook’s total is an FSU single-season record.

Francois completed 33 of 52 passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, while running for another 59 yards to collect a QBR of 77.3.
