Arsenal themselves are keen on Higuain, who they missed out on in 2013, and were rumoured to have proposed a swap deal involving the Napoli man and Giroud.

The 29-year-old’s representative says Arsene Wenger’s side have made no decision on his future, but admits that the prospect of joining Napoli is appealing.

Wenger is desperate for a striker that can fire him towards a Premier League title, in what could be his final year as Arsenal manager, after his contract ends in 2017.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio CRC, the Frenchman’s agent, Mickael Manuello, said: “If he was asked to leave, then we would evaluate our options”.

Italian outlet Calciomercato claimed on Monday night that Arsenal are ready to test Napoli’s resolve with a huge offer that would see us pay £42.6m in cash plus give them Olivier Giroud in exchange for Higuain’s signature.

Real Madrid ace and Chelsea target Alvaro Morata is on Wenger’s radar after recently returning to the Bernabeu from Juventus.

Per the source, Giroud’s agent has hinted that the French forward would thrive in Serie A. The journalist also went onto state that Napoli club president De Laurentiis is also furious over the discussions becoming public.

Cesc Fabregas walks off the pitch after a Chelsea game last season. He only scored three goals in 20 Premier League appearances from December onwards, and was not included in Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016. Higuain played with the latter during his time with Los Blancos, and the two would surely strike up a prolific double act for the Gunners.

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly a wanted man
