Olympic Athlete Simone Biles Shares Favorite Things

“I think we’re going to be able to go out there and do some great gymnastics and really put Canada on the map”.

On-again, off-again relationships are the worst – except when you’re talking about the Olympics. Since the world last paid attention to gymnastics, at the…

Whether it’s the power of the men or the grace of the women, Americans can’t help but fall in love with these athletes every time the Olympics rolls around. “I feel all the teams were well prepared”. More like bad in the way that Shaft was bad. In addition to being part of the gold-medal team in London, Raisman also won gold on floor exercise.

“In terms of Gabby Douglas and Kohei Uchimura, both are capable of winning gold medals in Rio”, Latynina, whose record of winning 18 Olympic medals was surpassed by swimmer Michael Phelps four years ago, told Reuters.

“Everyone in the village is so tall”, Biles said. “I think the two-per-country rule is the dumbest thing ever”.

“She just wows us”, said Britain’s Claudia Fragapane.

As for the rest of the newcomers, Hernandez is the youngest at 16.

Douglas is attempting to become the first reigning all-around champion to repeat in almost 50 years.

A controversial selection to the five-woman team after a so-so performance at Olympic trials, Douglas validated Karolyi’s choice with steady performances all over, including a bars set that earned her a spot in the individual finals.

Remarkably he made a comeback at the 2012 Olympics, placing fifth in the 50-meter freestyle.

In a sport where three athletes will win medals, it is freaky that gymnastics still uses a rule that countries can only have two competitors in the final and that keeps some of the best gymnasts from competing on the highest stage.

Douglas is the reigning champion, though. She even has a move on her favorite event, floor, named after her.

Many of her competitors merely heaped on the praise. Every time Gabby Douglas dances, spins, and somersaults across the floor to that “Tu Vuo Fa L’americano” remix and has the crowd clapping along I just die.

Her talent was clear for all to see at the last three world championships – at Antwerp, Nanning and Glasgow – as she flew through the air faster and higher than her rivals. She didn’t always have it easy, though. “It’s an honour to compete with her”. And while some visitors are whingeing about cold showers and blocked toilets in the athletes’ village, she sounds full of enthusiasm for the whole adventure.

Raisman, 22, is the US women gymnasts’ team captain, and is nicknamed “Grandma” by her teammates. The women’s gymnastics team final will kick off on Tuesday, August 9, at 3 p.m. EST. She’s also the captain.

Nowhere is her renewed confidence more visible than on beam. Looks like grandma has some game. The men of United States of America gymnastics surprised a lot of people in 2012 when they found themselves on top of the standings after the qualification round in London.

That’s when it all fell apart. The champions of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics played no role in naming themselves, while McKayla Maroney came up with the 2012’s team’s moniker.

Biles took a pass on the 2015 Pan Am Games. But what makes them so special, so much fun to watch, is that they don’t let up.

Remember: no one is immune from tumbling off the beam, not even Biles, who fell during her routine at the American Olympic trials in San Jose.

China’s hopes of regaining the team title they relinquished to the U.S.in 2012 may end up being a mere pipe dream after a series of shaky performances left them a distant second with 175.279 points.

In 2014, Raisman returned to gymnastics.

Dalton may have an element to his name, but he doesn’t have a medal.

The American team blew away the opposition by nearly 10 points in qualifying, propelled by Biles’ gravity-defying vaults, vibrant Samba-infused floor choreography, and flawless landings. Theoretically, that shouldn’t be an issue, as she has a good shot to win five of the six golds available in Rio. A gymnast must qualify in each of the four sub-events for a chance at an all-around medal. He is on hiatus from the Patriots to compete on the US team, and has lost a significant amount of his typical playing weight.

But the bars can be a fickle mistress.

The horizontal bar once betrayed him when he went chin first into the bar during the 2011 World Championships. “I mean we’re 10 points ahead”. You’re definitely not going to be competing in croquet.

“We need to fight”, said Mustafina, the 2010 world champion.

That may be the most impressive thing about this group.
