Some delegation members have moved in, and Olympic officials said the problems are expected to be fixed “within a few days”, the Times said.

Earlier on Monday, Italy said it had contracted its own workers to address its concerns.

Filipino athletes remained wary of the Zika virus threat, but said competing in the Olympic Games is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up. What risk there is can be mitigated further by taking measures to prevent mosquito bites, such as applying a high quality insect repellent regularly.

Olympic organizers have promised to resolve problems by Thursday, but some of the teams who are already in Rio aren’t buying it. Australia has made a decision to relocate its athletes, at least temporarily, and the Dutch and Italian teams have complained about the facilities, which are reported to have broken elevators, mold, and even holes in the ceilings.

“The mayor and I have a date on Wednesday and I believe there will be a ceremonial handing over of the keys”.
