Needham residents gathered to celebrate Raisman’s considerable accomplishments in Rio, where she won silver medals in the women’s floor exercise and women’s individual all-around, and a gold medal as part of the United States women’s team.

Like Raisman, who is 22 years old competing in a sport full of teenagers, Ortiz is at worst going to retire a three-time champion in his sport.

Raisman will also sit for an interview on the steps of Town Hall with a local sports reporter. Raisman previously won two gold medals in London in 2012.

In New Jersey, residents of Old Bridge staged an elaborate ceremony Saturday to honor Hernandez’s accomplishments.

The 16-year-old took part in a motorcade that featured police, military members and gymnastics groups. Last week, her Brestyan teammates held a viewing party to cheer for Raisman during her final Olympic event in Rio.
