Olympic diver Tom Daley engaged to long-term boyfriend Dustin Lance Black

On Thursday, the Olympic medalist and his boyfriend Dustin Lance Black quietly announced their engagement in The Times. Instead of taking to social media to make the announcement, they instead placed a notice in the paper.

Daley, 21, who came out bisexual in a 2013 YouTube video, and Black, 41, started dating in the summer of that year.

Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black are engaged after 2 years of dating [Wenn]. That someone is a guy and it did take me by surprise a little bit. I just didn’t want to feel I had to hide, or when I went out to dinner have to bring lots of people.

In July this year, Daley told The Guardian of being gay: “I guess it has always been in the back of my head, but you never really know”.

News, the 21-year-old Daley and the 41-year-old Black announced their engagement news exactly the same manner in which Benedict Cumberbatch announced his engagement to Sophie Hunter in November 2014.

Tom added: “I typed “call me” in his notes with a smiley face on this phone and the next day he texted”.

“It gave me hope to live my life openly as who I am and maybe one day fall in love and get married”.

Shortly after making the video, Tom revealed Dustin saved him from quitting diving altogether.

Meanwhile, Tom’s partner Dustin has been busy polishing his screenplay for The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, a film he will also direct. If not, we hope they tie the knot sooner than later!

True to form, the announcement came after a romantic date – and more adorable selfies – as they spent a few quality time together as the British museum.

Tom kept fans in the loop of their travels with shots of themselves visiting the likes of the famous Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, as well as horse-back riding in California.
