Olympic pool where water turned green closed for practice
Pool experts said that with decent pool maintenance, water in a pool should not change color so drastically and quickly.

On social media, the water quality issues are being mocked under the hashtag #PoolGate.
It remained unclear as to why the bloom did not affect the adjacent pool used for water polo.
“We knew it was safe”, said Sam Dorman, part of the silver medal-winning USA synchronized diving team. “When Tom tweeted about it I did reply saying if he needed a hand they could always give us a call”.
Maybe not, according to a US pool expert.
A statement from Rio 2016 organizers says water tests were conducted and there is no risk to athletes.
“The whole building smells like a fart”.
“On the first day of the diving, the water clarity looked like it was already deteriorating”, Mr Egan said. And how did it make the water green?
If anything else leaks out around this pool story, we will let you know.
“This was because our first reaction to the water turning green was to use more chemicals”, Andrada said.
After the competitions began, the diving pool turned a green color and no one had any idea why.
“This was because of heat and a lack of wind”, he said.
On Wednesday, a day after the water in the diving pool turned from aqua to green, the water in the nearby water polo pool followed suit. “Algae spores can be transmitted”.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – 09/08/2016. “It is probably algae because of a problem with the dosing system”.
This is your reminder that this pool is supposed to host the absolute best diving competitors in the entire world. Competition still went on as the change in color was determined to be safe, with organizers saying algae caused the weird scene. “The last quarter, I can barely open my eyes”. When copper and chlorine mix, it turns the water a clear green. “Who cares about the green water?” It’s not algae. What they’re doing is throwing in more sanitizer, more chlorine thinking its algae. “These are things that, it’s the Olympic Games, you can’t have that”.
“My eyes hurt from the water, it’s not good”, Zalanki also told reporters after his team drew 8-8 with Greece Wednesday. But he wasn’t sure chlorine was the problem. “In Hungary there’s lots of water like this”. The major upgrades included new springboards, a refurbished medical center, new hydrotherapy baths and two new warmup pools.

“We can’t use too much chemicals in the water because athletes are training in it”, Andrada said.
